PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zackary Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ashton Mink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zackary Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ashton Mink!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez shoots in and drives through. Mink sprawls well.
Sloppy strikes from Perez. Those never looked like landing.

Perez gets a clinch.
Perez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mink has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Perez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Perez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mink walks away with a smile on his face. Perez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Perez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Perez avoids the head kick by Mink.

Perez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Perez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mink's face.
Mink manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mink slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Mink looking to hit a scissor sweep but Perez is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Perez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Perez tries to free his leg and advance position but Mink is retaining full guard.
Mink wants to sweep but no luck.

Mink is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mink looks gassed!
Perez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perez throws a big right hand that misses.
Mink controlling the position.
Mink wants to sweep but no luck.
Mink working a defensive guard but Perez passes into half guard.

Perez escapes and gets back to his feet.

Perez gets the takedown into side control.
Mink tries to improve position but can't.
Perez wants to control but Mink is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Perez stands up and beckons Mink to his feet.

Perez rushes Mink and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Mink trying to land knees to the body.
Perez controlling the action here for a moment.
Perez looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Mink has Perez pressed against the cage, preventing Perez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Mink breaks from the clinch.
Mink throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Perez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mink would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Perez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mink!
Mink is trying to escape the mount.
Mink is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zackary Perez dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Perez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mink stops Perez from passing to mount.
Perez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mink down.
Perez is chipping away with strikes.
Perez grinds an elbow into Mink's temple.
Perez happy to just control the position for now.

Perez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mink tries to bum rush Perez with a series of wild strikes but Perez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Zackary Perez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mink bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Perez is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mink's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Perez trying to control but Mink postures up.
Perez tries to get to full guard but Mink has control of the leg.
Perez trying to hold on to Mink's head to control him but Mink postures up.

Mink escapes and gets back to his feet.
Mink changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Perez tries to avoid it but Mink manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Perez to the ground. Perez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Perez shoots in for a takedown but Mink shows good takedown defense.
Mink misses with a kick to the body

and Perez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mink's guard now.
Mink looking to hit a scissor sweep but Perez is one step ahead there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mink is on top in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Perez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perez is trying to control the position but Mink postures up.
Mink tries to stand but Perez is controlling from the bottom.
Mink lands a couple of elbows.

Perez has his feet on Mink's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Perez tries for a takedown but Mink circles away easily

and Mink counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Perez!

Mink scoring with strikes but Perez is staying in there.

Perez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The referee warns Perez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Mink controlling from the full mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Perez tries to hold on but Mink pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ashton Mink will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Mink looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Perez!
Perez tries to lock up and control but Mink gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Perez tries to control the position but Mink now has his back.
Mink has Perez flattened out and is raining down punches.
Perez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Perez looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mink drops an elbow to the side of Perez's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez tries to roll over but Mink keeps him under control.
Mink is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perez is trying to control but can't.
Mink is looking to advance position but Perez won't allow it.
Mink slows the pace down in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ashton Mink wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mink shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Perez as he avoids it easily.

Mink gets caught flat footed, as Perez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mink trying to keep a closed guard but Perez is proving a slippery customer.
Perez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perez is looking to stand up but Mink won't let him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mink is on top in guard.
Perez is adopting a defensive guard.
Mink controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mink wants to pass the guard but Perez is keeping the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Perez pushes Mink off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mink misses with a takedown attempt

and Perez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mink tries to pull guard but Perez holds him up against the cage and eventually Mink drops back down to his feet.
Zackary Perez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ashton Mink.

Perez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Perez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mink holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mink can't break the clinch.
Come on Perez - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Perez looking to stall.
Mink jumps guard but Perez stands there with Mink around his waist. Mink gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ashton Mink.
I think Mink has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
