PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ringo Spar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Muhamad Alli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spar comes into the arena with John Lennon & Wings: Dear Boy blaring out of the sound system. Alli is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by De la Souls, by POS. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ringo Spar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Muhamad Alli!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Spar tries to land a body kick

and Alli counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Spar tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Alli is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Alli drops back looking for a leg! Spar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Spar manages to kick Alli off! Alli jumps back into Spar's guard.
Spar wants to sweep here but Alli controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alli throws a big right hand that misses.
Alli stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Spar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alli has gone for a leg lock! Spar slips out almost immediately though and dives into Alli's guard.
Spar trying to control the position from guard on top but Alli is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spar postures up.

Spar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alli, up you get!

Spar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Spar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Alli working a defensive guard here.
Spar postures up in Alli's guard and throws a big left but Alli blocks it.

Spar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Spar is looking to work some ground and pound but Alli has wrist control.

Spar gets to his feet. Alli looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Alli throws a sloppy head kick and Spar moves out of range easily.
Alli misses with a takedown attempt
and Spar counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A shot to the body from Spar misses

and Alli counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Spar's guard now.
Alli tries to free his leg and advance position but Spar is retaining full guard.
Alli throwing strikes but missing.

Spar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Spar raining down shots from the mount!
Alli can't escape the position.
Spar looking to finish Alli with some ground and pound. This is bad for Alli!
Alli avoids a series of strikes thrown by Spar.

Spar throwing strikes here but Alli is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Spar misses with some ground and pound and Alli recovers position to half guard.
Spar is trying to control the action in half guard but Alli is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Spar is thwarting Alli's attempts to control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ringo Spar dominated that round.
That's time! Spar's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Spar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Alli's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Spar lands some shots froms side control.
Alli is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
An elbow from Spar crashes against the mat.
Spar throwing strikes but Alli manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Alli is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Spar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spar can't do much from the bottom here.
Spar is looking for a sweep.

Alli tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alli has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Alli thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Alli trying to control the action but Spar is working from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Alli is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spar has escaped the position, nice work there.
Spar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Spar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Alli asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Alli is trying to get an arm triangle but Spar is defending well.

Alli is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spar has escaped the position, nice work there.

Alli is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Spar pushes Alli away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alli gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Ringo Spar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Alli swings around for an armbar but Spar sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Alli's guard.
Spar trying to control the position from guard on top but Alli is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Spar stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Alli shoots in for a takedown but Spar shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ringo Spar dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Alli misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Alli takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Alli is trying to get an arm triangle but Spar is defending well.
Alli tries to move into full mount but can't pass Spar's legs.
Spar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alli on the ground.
Spar is not content to let Alli control the position.

Alli has an Americana. Spar didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Alli is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Alli hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Muhamad Alli!
