The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Svensson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sagat but Sagat pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Sagat counters with a series of strikes. Svensson will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Sagat counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Svensson tries to clinch there but Sagat circles away.

Sagat feints and then cracks Svensson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Svensson down.

Sagat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sagat misses with a double jab.
Sagat scores with a nice right hand.
Sagat uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Svensson has time to react.

John Sagat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Crunch! Sagat slams his shin into Svensson's torso.

Oh Svensson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Sagat counters with a nice kick to the body.
Svensson seems to have got his legs back now.
Svensson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Svensson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Sagat is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Svensson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

No joy there for Sagat, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sagat scores with a kick to the midsection.
Svensson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Sagat closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Svensson! Sagat dives in looking to finish! Svensson is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
