The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobieski gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gugenishvili counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Guram Gugenishvili hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sobieski is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gugenishvili is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sobieski to the mat. Sobieski regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gugenishvili connects with a nice short shot to Sobieski's temple.

Gugenishvili is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sobieski defends it well.
Sobieski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gugenishvili is working away from the top position though.

Gugenishvili looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sobieski with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gugenishvili connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sobieski some visible discomfort.

Gugenishvili remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Gugenishvili is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sobieski is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
