PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cana Dollar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aoshi Shinomura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cana Dollar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aoshi Shinomura!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dollar drives through and clinches with Shinomura against the cage.

Shinomura jumps guard and drags Dollar to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Shinomura has his foot on Dollar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dollar works his way back into a safe position though.
Dollar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shinomura swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dollar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Shinomura's guard.

Dollar is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shinomura is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shinomura has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dollar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shinomura stands up over Dollar, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Dollar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shinomura looks gassed!

Dollar looking for a guillotine here but Shinomura defends easily.
Dollar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shinomura trying to control the position from guard on top but Dollar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Shinomura is looking to break free of the clinch but Dollar has double underhooks.
Dollar using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Shinomura has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Dollar lands a nice elbow.

Dollar manages to break the clinch.
Shinomura closes the distance and clinches up with Dollar, looking for a takedown. Shinomura pushes Dollar against the cage but Dollar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shinomura looks for a takedown but Dollar sprawls well.

Dollar looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Shinomura trying to hold on to Dollar's head to control him but Dollar postures up.
Dollar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shinomura on the ground.

Shinomura wants to get back to full guard.
Shinomura works his way to full guard. Good work.

Shinomura looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Dollar is working Shinomura over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Dollar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shinomura, up you get!
Shinomura tries to clinch

and Dollar counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Shinomura's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shinomura looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Dollar stands and steps away. Shinomura gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Dollar counters with a shoot takedown. Shinomura fights it but they end up in guard.
Cana Dollar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aoshi Shinomura.
Shinomura is trying to keep Dollar in close.
Dollar thows a big elbow that misses.

Dollar trying to control but Shinomura is working from the bottom.
Dollar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shinomura swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dollar advances to half guard.

Dollar escapes and gets back to his feet.
Shinomura avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Shinomura gets caught flat footed, as Dollar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dollar wants to control from the top but Shinomura keeps moving.
Dollar wants to stand but Shinomura has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Dollar is pushing down on Shinomura's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shinomura is fighting to maintain full guard but Dollar has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dollar lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Dollar is pressing down on Shinomura's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shinomura is holding on for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dollar stands up out of the half guard.

Dollar gets a clinch.
Dollar with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Dollar pulls guard.

Dollar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shinomura can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dollar looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shinomura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cana Dollar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Shinomura is looking to improve his position but Dollar isn't that keen on the idea.
Shinomura is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Dollar has taken his back.

Dollar is trying to stick to Shinomura's back but Shinomura is turning into Dollar. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dollar's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Shinomura.

Shinomura tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shinomura has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Dollar is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dollar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shinomura wants to hit a switch here but Dollar passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shinomura there!
Shinomura is squirming around, avoiding Dollar's attempts to control the action.

Dollar stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Shinomura drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dollar gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Shinomura stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dollar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dollar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shinomura is one step ahead there.
Dollar can't keep his opponent in guard - Shinomura advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Dollar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shinomura is working away from the top position though.

Shinomura is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dollar defends it well.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shinomura tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Dollar presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Dollar just misses with a elbow thrown towards Shinomura's brow.

The fight stays on the outside here - Dollar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Dollar moves in looking to clinch but Shinomura pushes him off.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Well Dollar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
