Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Garret Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Welsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Welsh told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Garret Hawk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Welsh! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welsh throws a right and a left that both miss. Welsh throws a series of punches but Hawk avoids them all with ease. Hawk fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Welsh getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Hawk shoots in for a takedown but Welsh shows good takedown defense. Welsh defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hawk. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garret Hawk. That's going to take a lot out of him. Welsh throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Welsh tries to bum rush Hawk with a series of wild strikes but Hawk uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Welsh fails to land with a series of punches.
Welsh misses with a jab, cross combination.
Welsh connects with a body shot that sends Hawk's belly button to the back. Welsh swinging wildly here.
Sloppy strikes from Welsh. Those never looked like landing. Welsh swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Welsh misses with a few strikes there.
Hawk with a poor takedown and Welsh counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hawk drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Welsh is looking for a sweep. Hawk is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Welsh is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Hawk in side control, just content to control the action for now. Welsh manages to get back to half guard. Hawk is trying to control. Welsh wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Hawk is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Welsh has managed to free his arm - good work. Welsh kicks off Hawk and gets to his feet. Some wild striking there from Welsh.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hawk shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Welsh as he jumps to the side. Hawk is breathing heavily. Welsh looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A looping hook to the body misses from Welsh. Hawk does a little dance to reset his feet. Welsh misses with a wild combination.
Hawk takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Welsh throws a nice looking combination but Hawk bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Welsh connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Welsh moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Welsh swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hawk decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Welsh's guard. Welsh has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hawk has passed into side control.
Welsh manages to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hawk tries to pass the half guard into mount. Welsh knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Welsh gets back to full guard.
Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Welsh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Welsh looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hawk preventing the sweep. Hawk wants to control from the top but Welsh keeps moving. Hawk works a leg free and moves into half guard. Hawk seems to be working for a kimura but Welsh defends the submission attempt. Hawk prevents Welsh from improving his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welsh tries to kick Hawk off but Hawk keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Welsh manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Welsh had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hawk defends it easily. Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Welsh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Welsh has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hawk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Welsh. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Welsh taking punishment in the form of punches.
Hawk has hold of Welsh's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Welsh seems comfortable defending it but Hawk has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Welsh is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Welsh is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hawk couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Garret Hawk!
