Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drake Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Strenk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shepherd kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Shattering The Skies Above. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd looks for a takedown but Strenk sprawls well.
Strenk throws a head kick that misses
and Shepherd counters with a stiff right hand.
Shepherd manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Strenk on his heels. He'll look to pass Strenk's guard now, I'm sure.
Shepherd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Strenk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shepherd wants to control from the top but Strenk keeps moving.
Strenk looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Strenk working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shepherd.
Strenk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shepherd!

Shepherd sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Strenk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shepherd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steven Strenk.

letting Shepherd counter with a right hand.

and Shepherd counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shepherd scores with a jab to the jaw.
Shepherd bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Strenk's head backwards.

and Strenk counters with a slapping leg kick.
Strenk on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

letting Shepherd counter with a right hand.
Shepherd scores with a jab.
Strenk shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Shepherd shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Strenk counters with a three punch combo that has Shepherd backing up. Shepherd nods at Strenk to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Shepherd. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Strenk defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shepherd.

and Shepherd counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Strenk can't keep his opponent in guard - Shepherd advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shepherd works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Strenk throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Shepherd counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Shepherd makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Shepherd catches Strenk with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Shepherd connects with a good right hand that stumbles Strenk. Strenk circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Shepherd shoots in and drives through. Strenk sprawls well.
Shepherd takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Strenk stalks Shepherd and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Shepherd's face. Shepherd staggers backwards, shaken.
Shepherd fails to land the takedown.

and Shepherd counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Steven Strenk is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Shepherd decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Strenk's guard.

Shepherd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Strenk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shepherd sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Strenk's guard.
Shepherd is keen to just control but Strenk is a slippery customer.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shepherd in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Strenk tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Shepherd!
