PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryder Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Goodman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaw comes to the cage accompanied by dmx-ruff ryders. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryder Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gary Goodman!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goodman shoots for a takedown but Shaw saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Shaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Goodman keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Shaw unloading with bombs!
Goodman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Shaw unloads with some shots from mount but Goodman bucks and avoids them well.
Goodman sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Goodman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shaw is working away from the top position though.
Goodman tries to roll over but Shaw keeps him under control.
Shaw wants to get back to his feet.
Shaw has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Goodman is looking to control Shaw's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Goodman avoid being mounted?

Shaw stalling away here and it's allowed Goodman to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Shaw wanted to stand there but Goodman had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Goodman is on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Goodman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Shaw is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Shaw is looking to stand up but Goodman isn't so interested in that idea.
Shaw has Goodman pulled in close to control his posture.
Goodman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Goodman working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shaw's head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Goodman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Goodman cracks Shaw with a solid left hand.
Goodman chips away with some ground and pound.
Shaw is breathing heavily.
Shaw keeping moving, preventing Goodman from controlling successfully.
Shaw keeping full guard, as Goodman tries to pass.
Shaw looking for a sweep. Not yet Shaw, not yet.
Goodman trying to control but Shaw is working from the bottom.

Shaw is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Goodman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Goodman wants to control from the top but Shaw keeps moving.

Gary Goodman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Shaw misses with a double jab

and Goodman counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Goodman working over Shaw with some ground and pound. Shaw looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Goodman moves nicely into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shaw on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Goodman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Shaw tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Goodman is in Shaw's guard.
Goodman wants to pass the guard but Shaw is keeping the position.
Goodman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Goodman is in close to Shaw's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Goodman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Goodman stands up from Shaw's guard - Goodman perhaps looking for a knockout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shaw enables Goodman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shaw manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Goodman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Goodman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shaw swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Goodman content to stall in guard here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Shaw looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Goodman passes into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Goodman in side control lands a decent elbow.

Goodman decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Shaw looks to clinch

and Goodman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shaw!

Goodman fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Shaw tries to hold on but Goodman pushes him away.
Goodman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Goodman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Gary Goodman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Goodman is landing with some decent strikes but Shaw is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Goodman postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Shaw looks a forlorn figure.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shaw is in a horrible position here. Goodman smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Goodman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Shaw stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shaw wants it to stay on the feet.

Goodman dives in and scores a takedown into Shaw's guard.
Goodman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Shaw tries to roll over but Goodman keeps him under control.
Goodman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Goodman is keen to just control but Shaw is a slippery customer.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Goodman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Goodman is trying to control. Shaw wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Goodman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shaw knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Goodman decides to stand up.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Goodman cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Goodman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Shaw's face.
