PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Kenzhen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryo Kenzhen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenzhen with a lazy takedown attempt

and Lewis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lewis.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kenzhen wants to stand but Lewis is controlling the position.
Lewis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kenzhen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kenzhen keeping full guard, as Lewis tries to pass.

Lewis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lewis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Lewis stopping the sweep attempt from Kenzhen.
Lewis throws a strike but Kenzhen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lewis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Lewis pulls Kenzhen in close to prevent any damage.

Lewis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kenzhen defends well.
Kenzhen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lewis is proving hard to escape from.
Kenzhen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Lewis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lewis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kenzhen wanted to stand there but Lewis had control of the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kenzhen stays in close to Lewis's body and controls the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lewis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Lewis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kenzhen wants to improve his position but Lewis is controlling well.
Lewis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kenzhen works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kenzhen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lewis is one step ahead there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kenzhen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lewis's guard.

Lewis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lewis looks gassed!

Lewis manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Lewis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kenzhen avoids it really well and circles away.
Kenzhen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lewis leaves Kenzhen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kenzhen feints a jab promting Lewis to slip. Kenzhen then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Lewis slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Kenzhen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kenzhen doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lewis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kenzhen's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryo Kenzhen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lewis with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lewis trying to control but Kenzhen is working from the bottom.

Kenzhen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lewis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lewis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lewis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lewis is looking to work some ground and pound but Kenzhen has wrist control.
Lewis chips away with some ground and pound.

Kenzhen is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Lewis frees his head nicely. Oh but Kenzhen has switched to an armbar! Lewis is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
