Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Arruda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pawel Zaremba! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zaremba stuffs the takedown. Pawel Zaremba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Arruda tries to clinch and Zaremba counters with a nice low kick that buckles Arruda's knee momentarily. Zaremba instigates a clinch. Zaremba manages to break the clinch.
Zaremba shoots for a double leg takedown but Arruda sprawls well. He's pushed Zaremba's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Zaremba scores with a leg kick.
Zaremba tries to clinch but Arruda is having none of it. Zaremba throws a sloppy head kick and Arruda moves out of range easily. Zaremba forces Arruda back against the cage and clinches. Arruda wants a takedown but no success here.
Arruda drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Zaremba gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Zaremba is pressed up against the cage. Arruda has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Zaremba down to the mat. Zaremba avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Zaremba defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Arruda. Zaremba gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Zaremba tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Arruda smiles and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arruda fails to land the takedown. Arruda is breathing heavily. Zaremba closes the distance and pushes Arruda back into the cage. Zaremba's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Zaremba jumps guard and drags Arruda to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Arruda is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Zaremba tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Arruda trying to control but Zaremba is working from the bottom. Arruda postures up in Zaremba's guard and throws a big left but Zaremba blocks it. Arruda drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Arruda jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Arruda passes into half guard. Arruda wants to take a breather but Zaremba is having none of it. Arruda trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arruda decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Arruda shoots in looking for a takedown but Zaremba manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Arruda's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Zaremba leaves Arruda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Arruda slaps away a takedown attempt from Zaremba, before circling back to the center of the mat. Arruda shoots in but no luck this time. Zaremba takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Arruda misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Arruda tries a head kick but it misses.
Arruda closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Zaremba quickly recovers to half guard. Arruda wants to work for an arm triangle but Zaremba is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Arruda is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Arruda is thwarting Zaremba's attempts to control the position. Arruda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zaremba is just riding it out for now. Arruda eventually gives up the hold. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rickson Arruda will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Zaremba has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Arruda is working away from the top position though. Zaremba blocking the ground and pound attempt from Arruda.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Arruda missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Arruda is looking for a kimura here.
Zaremba really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Arruda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Arruda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zaremba keeps working. Zaremba wants to improve his position but Arruda is controlling well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zaremba is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Arruda scores with a couple of nice shots. Arruda is trying to control the action in half guard but Zaremba is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Arruda works his way into full mount! Arruda takes Zaremba's back. Zaremba is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Arruda off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Arruda missing with punches from the back. Arruda misses with a punch to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zaremba staying busy and making it hard for Arruda to control. Arruda has got one arm under Zaremba's chin. This could be trouble... Zaremba trying to control the other hand but Arruda gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Zaremba has tapped out! The fight is over!
