Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Patrick Bateman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryan Hitman! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hitman throws a series of punches but Bateman moves out of range. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bateman enables Hitman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bateman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Hitman wants to control from the top but Bateman keeps moving. Bateman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bateman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Bateman looking for a sweep. Not yet Bateman, not yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bateman wants to stand but Hitman is controlling the position. Hitman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bateman works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hitman with a flurry of punches that miss. Bateman is trying to control the position but Hitman postures up. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Bateman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bateman looking to control.

Patrick Bateman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Hitman looks to land a left hand but Bateman moved out of range nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bateman throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Bateman needs to keep his hands up - Hitman had a free shot at his head there. Hitman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hitman throws an off balance right hand
and Bateman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Hitman has a takedown stuffed. Hitman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Hitman working some strikes from top position. Hitman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hitman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bateman is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hitman is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bateman working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Hitman has passed into half guard!
Bateman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hitman is working away from the top position though. Hitman is nestled in close to Bateman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Bateman wants to get back to his feet.
Hitman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bateman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bateman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Hitman is stalling in the full guard. Hitman trying to control but Bateman is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bateman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hitman defends it easily. Hitman working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bateman's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bateman keeping moving, preventing Hitman from controlling successfully. Hitman tries to free his leg and advance position but Bateman is retaining full guard. Bateman has his foot on Hitman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hitman works his way back into a safe position though. Hitman lands a couple of digs. Hitman pushes down on Bateman's leg and manages to get into half guard. Hitman is nestled in close to Bateman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Hitman lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hitman connects with a nice short shot to Bateman's temple. Hitman looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Bateman wants to improve his position but Hitman is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Hitman trying to control the position from guard on top but Bateman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bateman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hitman lands a couple of decent looking shots. Hitman looking to pass the guard. Bateman is looking to stand up but Hitman isn't so interested in that idea. Bateman keeping full guard, as Hitman tries to pass. Hitman slips nicely into half guard. Bateman wants to get back to full guard. Hitman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bateman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Hitman dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Bateman turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Bateman throws a head kick that Hitman semi-blocks.
Hitman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bateman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Hitman scores with punches from side control. Bateman can't do much from the bottom here. Hitman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bateman keeps working. Hitman working the body and head with strikes. Bateman is trying to control Hitman's posture but Hitman avoids it. Hitman wants to control for a moment but Bateman uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Hitman wants to free his trapped foot but Bateman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hitman is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Hitman trying to mount his opponent but Bateman defends it. Nice strikes from Hitman there. Hitman is thwarting Bateman's attempts to control the position. Bateman wants to get back to full guard. Bateman looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hitman not doing much here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Bateman is looking to improve his position.

He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Hitman misses with a right hand and Bateman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hitman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Hitman shoots in for a takedown but Bateman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Hitman swings widly with a right hand
and Bateman counters with a head kick. That will keep Hitman thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Hitman shoots in but Bateman avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Bateman counters with a slapping leg kick. Bateman scores with a hook to the body. Hitman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Hitman tries to bum rush Bateman with a series of wild strikes but Bateman uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Hitman shoots in and gets a takedown into Bateman's guard. Bateman trying to keep a closed guard but Hitman is proving a slippery customer.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Bateman wants to sweep but no luck.

Bateman can't keep his opponent in guard - Hitman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Hitman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Bateman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hitman is working away from the top position though. Hitman is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hitman can do anything to dispel that myth. Bateman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Bateman with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Bateman wants to get back to his feet but Hitman is holding on tight.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hitman holds on to Bateman around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hitman tries to improve his position but Bateman has taken his back! Bateman has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Hitman tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Bateman pushes Hitman away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
