PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Motive (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Kenny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Motive!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Kenny!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenny throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Motive's waist but Motive gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kenny off to one side.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Kenny.
Kenny misses with a hook
and Motive counters with a two punch combo.
Kenny throws a wild body kick that Motive sees coming a mile off.
Motive misses with a low kick as Kenny jumps back.
Kenny misses the shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kenny fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kenny wants to slow Motive down by chopping away at his legs.

Kenny lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Motive circles away quickly and effectively.
Kenny moves forwards but Motive connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Motive lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kenny gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Motive counters with a left and a right that stings Kenny.
Motive tries to clinch
enabling Kenny to counter with a crisp jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kenny fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Motive manages to avoid it.
Kenny tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Motive is able to avoid easily.
Motive keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kenny.
Kenny misses with a leg kick
and Motive connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Motive takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Motive takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Kenny misses with a body shot
and Motive counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kenny's knee momentarily.

Kenny drives through with a takedown into Motive's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kenny in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kenny throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Motive works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Motive counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kenny misses with a left hand
and Motive counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kenny misses with a low kick.
A head kick by Kenny misses

and Motive counters with a beautiful punch that sends Kenny to the canvas!


Kenny is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Motive is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Motive postures up and lands a big shot to Kenny's brow.
Motive controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Motive won't allow Kenny to get back to his feet.
Motive slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kenny tries to improve position but can't.
Kenny wants to control but Motive postures up.
Kenny has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kenny is trying to get back to half guard.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kenny parries the strikes from Motive easily there. Motive is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kenny to escape.

Kenny is looking to regain half guard here but Motive keeps moving and retains side control.
Motive connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kenny some visible discomfort.
Kenny is looking to reverse the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Motive in side control, throwing shots but Kenny defends.
Motive gets to mount! Kenny was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Motive counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kenny shoots in for a double leg but Motive sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Steve Kenny seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kenny swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kenny throws a head kick but Motive moves out of range.

Kenny has his takedown stuffed
and Motive counters with a stiff right hand.

Motive has taken the fight to the clinch.
Motive tries to throw a body punch but Kenny avoids it by throwing Motive back against the cage.
Motive stops a takedown attempt from Kenny.
Bobby Motive has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Kenny.
Motive lands a left hand.
A right hand to the body from Motive.
Kenny takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Motive lands with a light punch inside.
Steve Kenny has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

This has been an exciting period of action!
A short right from Motive on the inside.
Motive pushes Kenny back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Motive lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Motive throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kennys head.
Still in the clinch, Motive scores with a nice short uppercut.
Kenny is still on wobbly legs! Can Motive finish him?

Motive creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Kenny with a big uppercut! Kenny tries to clinch up but Motive pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Kenny to the mat! Kenny covers up and Motive unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Bobby Motive!
