And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stu Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Mercer.
Hughes takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Mercer clinches with his opponent.
Hughes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mercer pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mercer scores a nice knee to the body.
Hughes is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mercer utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

It looks like Matt Hughes has been cut.

Mercer manages to pull guard.
Hughes trying to control but Mercer is working from the bottom.
Hughes won't allow Mercer to get back to his feet.
Hughes wants to control from the top but Mercer keeps moving.
Mercer wants to stand but Hughes is controlling the position.
Hughes postures up and lands a big shot to Mercer's brow.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mercer can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes is stalling in the full guard.
Hughes passes Mercer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mercer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hughes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hughes thows a huge punch but Mercer dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hughes maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Mercer could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hughes has cracked it and Mercer is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hughes!
