Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Beltran! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Jefferson! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jefferson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Jefferson is figuring out what he wants to do next. Beltran is trying to get back to full guard. Jefferson is looking for a kimura here.
Jefferson controlling the pace. Jefferson is trying to control the action in half guard but Beltran is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Beltran is pressing down on Jefferson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Jefferson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Beltran really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Beltran keeping moving, preventing Jefferson from controlling successfully. Beltran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jefferson's guard. Jefferson keeping full guard, as Beltran tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jefferson trying to keep a closed guard but Beltran is proving a slippery customer.
Jefferson has his foot on Beltran's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Beltran works his way back into a safe position though. Jefferson looks gassed! Beltran tries to free his leg and advance position but Jefferson is retaining full guard. Jefferson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Beltran is one step ahead there. Beltran throws a strike but Jefferson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Beltran is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Beltran throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Beltran thows a huge punch but Jefferson dodges it nicely.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Beltran is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Jefferson trying to control from the bottom.
Beltran prevents Jefferson from improving his position. Jefferson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Beltran.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jefferson tries to get to full guard but Beltran has control of the leg. Beltran looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A choreographed right hand from Beltran misses the target. Beltran throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A swing and a miss from Jefferson. Jefferson gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Beltran. Beltran throws a lazy uppercut
and Jefferson counters with a single leg into guard. Beltran didn't expect that. Jefferson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Jefferson sitting in guard here, content to control. Jefferson stands and throws Beltran's legs to the side, diving into side control. Jefferson in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Beltran is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Michael Jefferson!
