PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Akira Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishikawa's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, mindshift genki sudo. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Akira Ishikawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andy Pain!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain throws a combination that misses

and Ishikawa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ishikawa throws a strike but Pain avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Ishikawa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Ishikawa distracts Pain with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ishikawa postures up in Pain's guard and throws a big left but Pain blocks it.
Pain controls Ishikawa momentarily but Ishikawa frees himself.

Ishikawa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Pain avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Pain is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Pain looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ishikawa is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pain wants to control the position but Ishikawa says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Ishikawa swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Pain is now in Ishikawa's guard. A big mistake from Ishikawa there, giving up the dominant position!

Ishikawa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pain doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pain manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pain has gone for a leg lock! Ishikawa slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pain's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ishikawa throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Pain works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Pain tries to kick Ishikawa off but Ishikawa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Ishikawa dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A right-left combo lands from Pain.

and Ishikawa holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pain tries to score a body lock takedown but Ishikawa shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Pain is trying to maintain the position but Ishikawa is very close to passing his half guard.

Ishikawa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ishikawa thows a huge punch but Pain dodges it nicely.
Ishikawa is pressing down on Pain's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pain is holding on for now.
Akira Ishikawa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ishikawa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Akira Ishikawa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pain wants to control but Ishikawa is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Ishikawa counters with a nice low kick that buckles Pain's knee momentarily.
Pain has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Ishikawa.

Pain darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

and Ishikawa counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Ishikawa has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Pain is trying to keep an underhook but Ishikawa manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Pain is looking to improve his position but Ishikawa isn't that keen on the idea.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ishikawa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
