PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Svensson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soul Crew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Svensson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Soul Crew!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Svensson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Svensson keeps Crew under control for a moment.
Svensson prevents Crew from improving position.
Svensson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Crew on the ground.
Crew laying and praying for a moment but Svensson takes advantage and regains half guard.
Svensson pushes Crew off looking to stand but Crew dives back in and keeps control.
Crew not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Svensson controlling the position well.
Svensson won't allow Crew to pass to mount.
Crew trying to control from half guard but Svensson is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Crew lands a nice short elbow.

Crew wants to work for an arm triangle but Svensson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Crew has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Svensson is trying to control but Crew manages to pass to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crew throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Svensson wants to get back to his feet.
Crew tries to control but Svensson wriggling away.
Crew seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Svensson is holding on tight.
Svensson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Crew is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Svensson is surviving well by controlling Crew's body position as best he can.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Crew wants to take Svensson's back here but Svensson is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Crew postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Svensson looks a forlorn figure.

Crew wants to finish this one by submission but Svensson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Crew.

Crew avoids the attempt from Svensson to control.

Crew unloads with some shots from mount but Svensson bucks and avoids them well.
Crew blocks Svensson's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Crew wants to control the pace but Svensson is squirming around nicely.

Crew moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Svensson has worked his arm free - good work by Svensson!
You can see the frustration on Svensson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Crew stands up and beckons Svensson to his feet.
Svensson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Svensson keeps the fight on the outside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Svensson scores with a body shot.
Crew shoots in looking for a takedown. Svensson tries to sprawl out of it but Crew keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Svensson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Crew shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Crew misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Crew swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Svensson is now in Crew's guard. A big mistake from Crew there, giving up the dominant position!
Crew looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Crew has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Svensson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Crew bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Svensson's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Soul Crew dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Crew shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Svensson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Soul Crew has been cut.

Svensson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Svensson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Svensson manages to break the clinch.
Crew dodges the punch combination from Svensson.
Svensson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Svensson tries to clinch up

and Crew counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Svensson keeping moving, preventing Crew from controlling successfully.
Svensson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Crew's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Crew is trying to control the position but Svensson postures up.
Svensson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Crew wants to sweep here but Svensson controlling him for the moment.

Crew drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Crew jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Svensson controls Crew momentarily but Crew frees himself.

Crew thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Crew has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Svensson misses with a takedown attempt

and Crew counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Crew not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Svensson pushes Crew off and gets back to his feet.
Crew fails with a takedown attempt.
Crew closes the distance and clinches up with Svensson, looking for a takedown. Crew pushes Svensson against the cage but Svensson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Martin Svensson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soul Crew.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Svensson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Crew is controlling him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Soul Crew showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Soul Crew's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Soul Crew has got the better of the ground game so far.

Crew is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Svensson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Svensson tries to escape but Crew is in control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Crew throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Crew is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Svensson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Crew is looking to take a break and control but Svensson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Crew working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Crew is working to tighten is grip on Svensson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Svensson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Crew is really squeezing tight and eventually Svensson passes out! Crew breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
