PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Silas Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wrockee Jaguar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wrockee Jaguar is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Silas Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wrockee Jaguar!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Hopkins. No joy for Jaguar on that attempt.
Hopkins throws a right and a left that both miss.

Jaguar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jaguar wants to control but Hopkins is keeping him busy.
Jaguar taking a break here but Hopkins is having none of it and regains half guard.
Hopkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopkins wants to get back to his feet.
Jaguar is trying to control the action in half guard but Hopkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Jaguar seems to be looking for submissions.
Jaguar is trying to control. Hopkins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Jaguar with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Hopkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jaguar on the ground.
Jaguar is keen to just control but Hopkins is a slippery customer.

Jaguar seems to be working for a kimura but Hopkins defends the submission attempt.
Jaguar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hopkins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jaguar is looking for a kimura but Hopkins is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jaguar to get the leverage.

Jaguar is working for an americana but Hopkins has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Jaguar was thinking about the submission.

Jaguar has gone for a leg lock! Hopkins slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jaguar's guard.

Jaguar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jaguar pulls Hopkins in to control the position.
Hopkins tries to stand but Jaguar is controlling from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Wrockee Jaguar was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Jaguar shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hopkins defends it nicely.
Hopkins throws a series of strikes that have Jaguar backpedaling.
Hopkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Oooooh!!! Hopkins has knocked Jaguar down with a huge combo! Hopkins steps away and waves a wobbly Jaguar back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Jaguar is rocked!

Hopkins shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Jaguar is still in real trouble! Can Hopkins finish him?
Hopkins wants to stand up but Jaguar has a hold of him and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hopkins stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hopkins wants it to stay on the feet.
Jaguar seems to have recovered his senses.
Hopkins tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Jaguar counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hopkins is staying active underneath Jaguar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hopkins wants to get back to his feet.
Jaguar is looking to advance position but Hopkins won't allow it.
Jaguar is taking a breather. Hopkins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Jaguar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hopkins sees it coming and defends easily.
Jaguar is breathing heavily.
Jaguar is trying to control. Hopkins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Hopkins slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Jaguar trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Hopkins keeping moving, preventing Jaguar from controlling successfully.

Jaguar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hopkins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jaguar has Hopkins in his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jaguar looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Wrockee Jaguar has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jaguar is defended easily by Hopkins.
No joy there for Hopkins, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hopkins swinging wildly here.

Hopkins clinches.
Hopkins tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Hopkins lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Jaguar on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jaguar blocks an elbow strike from Hopkins.
Hopkins throws a knee to the head but misses.
Jaguar is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Silas Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wrockee Jaguar.

Hopkins gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jaguar.
Jaguar fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hopkins crunches a lovely knee into Jaguar's ribcage.
Hopkins throws a knee to the head but misses.

Jaguar gets control of Hopkins's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jaguar will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hopkins wants to stand and escape but instead Jaguar has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jaguar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A close second round but Wrockee Jaguar will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Hopkins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jaguar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jaguar wants to control from the top but Hopkins keeps moving.

Jaguar trying to control the position from guard on top but Hopkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jaguar drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hopkins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hopkins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hopkins!

Jaguar tries to improve position but can't.
Jaguar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jaguar tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Jaguar regains half guard.
Hopkins wants to stand up but Jaguar has a hold of him and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jaguar is trying to maintain the position but Hopkins is very close to passing his half guard.

Hopkins decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Hopkins cracks Jaguar with a right hand to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hopkins throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hopkins bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jaguar's head backwards.

Jaguar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jaguar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jaguar throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Jaguar moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Hopkins has worked his arm free - good work by Hopkins!

Jaguar tries to score with some ground and pound. Hopkins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Wrockee Jaguar.
I think Jaguar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
