PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kyron Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arashi Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Kyron Gracie has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Kyron Gracie seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyron Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arashi Yamada!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gracie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gracie thows a huge punch but Yamada dodges it nicely.
Gracie misses with a head shot. Yamada uses the momentum to regain guard.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Yamada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yamada can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Yamada is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie throws an elbow but Yamada slips to the side and avoids it well.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Yamada sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gracie checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Kyron Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Yamada counters with a left and a right that stings Gracie.
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Yamada counters with a thumping low kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyron Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gracie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yamada tries to avoid it but Gracie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yamada to the ground. Yamada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yamada sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Yamada displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Yamada tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yamada manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gracie shoots and misses
and Yamada counters with a three punch combo that has Gracie backing up. Gracie nods at Yamada to acknowledge the strikes.
Yamada feints and then cracks Gracie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gracie down.

Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Yamada counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gracie walks into a stiff left hand from Yamada.
Gracie takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Yamada, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Yamada against the cage but Yamada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yamada is looking to slow Gracie down with leg kicks.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Gracie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Yamada's half guard.
Yamada is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yamada doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Yamada knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Gracie is looking to stall here but Yamada recovers full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gracie stops Yamada from standing up.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gracie working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arashi Yamada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Gracie trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Yamada manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gracie looking for subs off his back but Yamada has passed one foot through into half guard.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.

Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gracie manages to get to full guard.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yamada defends it easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yamada being controlled here momentarily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Arashi Yamada.
I think Yamada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
