The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valencia walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Schmidt tries for a takedown but Valencia circles away easily

and Valencia counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Schmidt is trying to stand.
Valencia seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schmidt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Valencia working over Schmidt with some ground and pound. Schmidt looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Valencia wants to pass the guard but Schmidt is defending well.

Valencia drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Schmidt dives on top into guard.

Valencia looking for a guillotine here but Schmidt defends easily.

Schmidt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Schmidt wants to control from the top but Valencia keeps moving.

Valencia looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
