Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Robert Mules! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Shepherd! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mules throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Shepherd sees it coming and avoids it easily. Mules scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Mules scores with a body shot.
Mules swings widly with a right hand
and Shepherd counters with a single leg into guard. Mules didn't expect that. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shepherd postures up in Mules's guard and throws a big left but Mules blocks it. Mules had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shepherd defends it easily. Shepherd in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Mules avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Shepherd tries to free his leg and advance position but Mules is retaining full guard. Mules on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mules tries to get out of the position. Shepherd is fighting to break Mules's control of his arms but Mules is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Shepherd postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Shepherd with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shepherd in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Mules controls Shepherd momentarily but Shepherd frees himself. Shepherd throwing strikes from guard but Mules blocks nicely. Shepherd trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Shepherd won't allow Mules to sweep him here. Shepherd thows a big elbow that misses. Shepherd missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Shepherd with a flurry of punches that miss. Shepherd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Shepherd throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mules works some decent striking defense from the bottom. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mules is on top in guard.

No, Mules has managed to get both his arms back between Shepherd's legs - danger averted. Shepherd keeping moving, preventing Mules from controlling successfully. Mules postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mules is pushing down on Shepherd's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shepherd is fighting to maintain full guard but Mules has managed to sneak the leg through. Shepherd looking for submissions off his back. Shepherd is refusing to be controlled, as Mules sits in half guard. Shepherd is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mules pulls his head out easily. Shepherd on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mules missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Mules is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Mules not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Shepherd is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mules's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mules's back! Mules covering up well and avoiding damage. Shepherd thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. You can see the frustration on Mules's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Shepherd looks gassed! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mules covering up well under a series of strikes from Shepherd. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Shepherd dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mules throws an overhand right that lands on Shepherd's shoulder, as Shepherd tries to avoid the shot. Mules stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Mules lands a nice leg kick that just misses Shepherd's sensitive parts. Shepherd uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mules. Mules throws an overhand right that lands on Shepherd's shoulder, as Shepherd tries to avoid the shot. Shepherd walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Shepherd drops his hands momentarily and Mules takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Mules looks to throw the jab but Shepherd is out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mules misses with a straight right. Mules scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Shepherd on the wrong end of a nice jab. Mules lands a nice shot to the body.
Shepherd is breathing heavily. Mules moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Shepherd on the wrong end of a nice hook. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mules scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mules throws a hook to the side of Shepherd's head but Shepherd sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Mules throws a nice looking combination but Shepherd bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Shepherd uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mules. Shepherd moves forwards but Mules connects with a nice, crisp jab. Mules connects with a crisp jab. Mules misses with a looping left. Mules goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Robert Mules seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mules cracks a nice hook into Shepherd's ribs. Shepherd shoots in looking for a takedown. Mules tries to sprawl out of it but Shepherd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mules manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mules feints a jab promting Shepherd to slip. Mules then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Shepherd slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Mules missing with a left hand there. Shepherd was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Shepherd has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shepherd there as he acknowledges the shot. Mules misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Shepherd defending well as Mules loads up on a big left hand. Robert Mules is winning the standup battle so far. Mules swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. The fighters circle momentarily. Mules darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Mules throws a leg kick but Shepherd checks it. Mules defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shepherd. Mules misses the jab. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mules throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shepherd. Shepherd uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mules. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shepherd steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mules. Mules throws a jab when Shepherd was well out of range. Mules tries to bum rush Shepherd with a series of wild strikes but Shepherd uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mules scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Shepherd on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mules misses with a two punch combination.
Mules tries to close the distance and clinch but Shepherd swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mules is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shepherd.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mules misses with a looping right. Mules misses with a straight right. Robert Mules is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mules catches Shepherd with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Shepherd changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mules tries to avoid it but Shepherd manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mules to the ground. Mules escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Shepherd checks a leg kick. Decent striking displayed by Mules there. Shepherd with a poor takedown and Mules counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mules misses with the combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shepherd tries for a takedown but Mules circles away easily and Shepherd takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Robert Mules has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Shepherd. Shepherd takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mules throws a jab but it's blocked by Shepherd. Mules connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shepherd momentarily.
Mules misses the shot to the body. Mules misses with a straight left. Mules lands a right hook to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mules connects with a right hand. Shepherd shakes it off. Mules misses with a body shot.
Mules looks to land a left hand but Shepherd moved out of range nicely. Mules is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Nice straight punches there by Mules. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mules. Mules lands a jab-cross combination. Shepherd walks into a straight right hand from Mules.
Shepherd is rocked!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mules batters Shepherd with a massive right followed by a huge left! Shepherd is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Mules lands a final crushing right hand to drop Shepherd to the mat with a gruesome thud! Mules is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
