Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Happy Gilmore! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt Hanson! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hanson tries a head kick but it misses.
Hanson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hanson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gilmore is trying to defend but Hanson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Hanson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gilmore knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Hanson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gilmore is trying to stand up here but Hanson is controlling him well. Hanson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hanson is controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hanson trying to advance position but Gilmore counters by regaining guard. Hanson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gilmore is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hanson prevents Gilmore from getting back to his feet. Hanson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Gilmore manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Gilmore stands up from guard. Let's bang! Hanson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Happy Gilmore is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hanson looks gassed! Hanson closes the distance and clinches up with Gilmore, looking for a takedown. Hanson pushes Gilmore against the cage but Gilmore circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Gilmore cracks Hanson with a right hand to the side of the head. Gilmore lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Gilmore. Gilmore throws a leg kick which misses Hanson's front leg but catches the back leg as Hanson tries to avoid it. Hanson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Hanson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gilmore lunges at Hanson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hanson's hand. Gilmore lands a high kick!
Gilmore lands with a good body shot. BOOM! Gilmore lands a beautiful left hook that drops Hanson. Hanson tries to recover but Gilmore is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Hanson lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Happy Gilmore!
