Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josef Manuel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Flick Wham! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Manuel enables Wham to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Manuel manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Manuel throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wham passes Manuel's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Manuel is looking for a sweep. Wham is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wham wants to pass the guard but Manuel is defending well. Wham throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Wham thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Manuel's head. Manuel tries to get to full guard but Wham has control of the leg. Wham wants to pass the guard but Manuel is defending well. Wham is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Manuel sees it coming and defends easily. Manuel looking for submissions off his back. Manuel gets full guard. Manuel working for a triangle but Wham defends it easily.
Wham pushes down on Manuel's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Manuel looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Wham looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Manuel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Manuel actively working from the bottom here. Manuel is not content to let Wham control the position. Wham passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Manuel! Manuel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wham is in the full mount, landing strikes. Wham wants to control the pace but Manuel is squirming around nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Manuel working to try and regain half guard.
Wham is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Manuel has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wham pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Manuel really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Wham has hold of Manuel's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Manuel manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Manuel defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Wham. Manuel can't escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wham lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Manuel hang on? Wham looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Wham is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Manuel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Manuel shrugs it off. Manuel is working to get back to half guard.
Wham quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Wham but it's paid off an Manuel is forced to tap! Nice work by Wham.
