The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bonilla circles away from the clinch attempt.
Burt fails in his attempt to clinch.
Burt swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bonilla.
It looks like Raul Bonilla has been cut.

Bonilla throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burt's waist but Burt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bonilla off to one side.

Bonilla is in close to Burt's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bonilla drops back, looking for a kneebar! Burt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Burt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Burt!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Burt tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Bonilla is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Burt gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Burt digs a right hand into Bonilla's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Bonilla's gas tank.

Bonilla drops down looking for an ankle pick but Burt pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Bonilla counters with a left to the body.
Bonilla displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Burt throws out the jab.
Burt stuffs the takedown attempt from Bonilla. Bonilla gets slowly back to his feet.
Bonilla feints and as Burt raises his hands in defense, Bonilla changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bonilla slips nicely into half guard.
Bonilla is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bonilla is looking for a kimura here.
Bonilla passes to full mount!

Burt is working to get back to half guard.
Burt is trying to escape the mount but Bonilla keeps good control and instead manages to take Burt's back.
Bonilla is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Burt has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bonilla controlling well, preventing Burt from escaping the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bonilla doesn't have the hooks in and Burt manages to turn into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Burt is pushing down on Bonilla's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bonilla is fighting to maintain full guard but Burt has managed to sneak the leg through.
Burt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
