PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Kung Ki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan Kung Ki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Kung Ki!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conway looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kung Ki is fending him off so far but Conway persists. Nope, Kung Ki circles away and we're back to standing.

Conway closes the distance and clinches.

Conway has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kung Ki is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Kung Ki might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Conway kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

This has been an exciting period of action!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Conway closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Thomas Conway just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Conway is looking for a sweep. Kung Ki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Conway is trying to maintain the position but Kung Ki is very close to passing his half guard.
Kung Ki is keen to just control but Conway is a slippery customer.
Kung Ki moves nicely into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Conway manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kung Ki's best efforts.
