PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mick Lenny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kasper Kessler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lenny comes to the cage accompanied by Convoy. Kessler has chosen Black Eyed Peas - I Got A Feeling as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kasper Kessler!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kessler staying out of range there.
Kessler lands a head shot.
Lenny swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kessler counters with a stiff right hand.
Lenny walks into a jab.
Kessler misses with a series of wild punches.
Kessler thuds a left hand into Lenny's body.
Kessler ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Lenny scores with a nice right hand.
Lenny throws a combination that misses
and Kessler counters with a left to the body.
Lenny throws a poor cross that misses
and Kessler counters with an outside leg kick.
Lenny throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kessler connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Kessler closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lenny wants to get back to his feet.

Kessler is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lenny doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kessler.
Kessler slows the pace down in half guard.

Lenny is looking for a sweep. Kessler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lenny is not content to let Kessler control the position.
Lenny is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kessler scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kessler takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Lenny wants to improve his position but Kessler is controlling well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kessler is taking a breather. Lenny says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kessler is trying to control the action in half guard but Lenny is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Kessler is trying to work for a kimura but Lenny is defending well.
Lenny is trying to maintain the position but Kessler is very close to passing his half guard.
Kessler wants to take a breather but Lenny is having none of it.

Kessler misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kessler wants to free his trapped foot but Lenny is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Lenny takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Kessler closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Lenny has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kessler is working away from the top position though.

Kessler looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kessler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Lenny wants to control but Kessler is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kessler is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lenny has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Kessler is landing with some decent strikes but Lenny is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Lenny tries to buck Kessler off but he can't manage it.

Lenny is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kessler is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kessler has escaped and now he's on top!

Kasper Kessler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Lenny blocks the body kick.
Kessler rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lenny moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kessler connects with an inside leg kick.
Lenny lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kessler circles away quickly and effectively.
Lenny chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kessler can pounce on him.
Kessler lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kessler moves away from the strike by Lenny.
Lenny throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kessler fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lenny.
Mick Lenny seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lenny throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kessler.

and Kessler counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lenny won't be happy with that.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lenny tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kessler wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kessler breaks Lenny's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kessler won't allow Lenny to sweep him here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

We're going to have a standup here because Mick Lenny wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Kessler counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kessler has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Kessler.

Lenny gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kessler to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kessler wants to pass the guard but Lenny is keeping the position.

Lenny is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kessler wants to control from the top but Lenny keeps moving.
Kasper Kessler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Lenny is trying to keep Kessler in close.
Mick Lenny has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Kessler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
