Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Richard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Barkley! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Richard fails in his attempt to clinch. Richard closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Barkley did well to prevent Richard getting side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barkley can do anything to dispel that myth. Barkley is looking to improve his position.
Barkley is doing well to control the position and prevent Richard from advancing to side control. Richard stalling away here and it's allowed Barkley to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Barkley keeping moving, preventing Richard from controlling successfully. Barkley managing to control the position. Richard won't allow Barkley to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Barkley holds on and takes a little breather. Barkley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Richard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barkley's guard. Barkley is adopting a defensive guard. Barkley manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barkley looking to control and managing it successfully. Barkley cracks Richard with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
It looks like Chuck Richard has been cut. Barkley controlling the pace for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Barkley has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Richard's face.
Richard could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richard tries to get back to half guard but can't. Barkley lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Barkley landing shots from mount. Barkley working the ground and pound effectively.
Richard is breathing heavily. Barkley cracks Richard with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Chuck Richard's cut is getting worse. Barkley unloading with bombs!
Jeez, Chuck Richard's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Chuck Richard's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
