PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Herron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Holly Kicker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herron's entrance music is Tubthumping. A fine choice. Holly Kicker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Herron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Holly Kicker!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herron closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kicker did well to prevent Herron getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Herron escapes and gets back to his feet.
Kicker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Herron counters with a single leg into guard. Kicker didn't expect that.
Herron lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Herron controlling from the top position.
Kicker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Herron. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kicker wants to get back to his feet but Herron is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kicker being controlled here, momentarily.
Herron has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Herron postures up and lands a big shot to Kicker's brow.

Herron's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kicker looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Herron passes into side control.

Herron decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Herron throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kicker was covering up waiting for the punch and Herron finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Kicker is trying to control the position but Herron postures up.
Herron seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Herron is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Herron controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Herron has managed to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kicker throws an elbow but it misses.
Herron wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Herron dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kicker shoots and misses

and Herron counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Herron thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Herron is in close to Kicker's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Herron passes into half guard.

Herron escapes and gets back to his feet.
Herron tries to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kicker fails with the takedown

and Herron counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kicker won't be happy with that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Herron controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kicker is pushing Herron's head away, looking to escape. Herron manages to hold on to the position though.
Herron in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Kicker is looking to get back to his feet here but Herron is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kicker's back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Herron has Kicker flattened out and is raining down punches.

Herron has got one arm under Kicker's chin. This could be trouble... Kicker trying to control the other hand but Herron gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Kicker has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sam Herron!
