Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Sampson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Sampson! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sampson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Smith tries to clinch but Sampson is having none of it. Sampson wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance. Sampson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Sampson tries to clinch up. Smith fails to land the takedown. Smith tries to clinch but fails miserably and Sampson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Sampson trying to pass the guard but Smith defending well. Sampson is figuring out what he wants to do next. I looks like Sampson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Sampson wants to stand up but Smith has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sampson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Smith knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Sampson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Smith makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Smith. Sampson is stalling in the full guard. Sampson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sampson advances position into side control! Sampson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Smith will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Despite being in the dominant position, Steve Sampson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sampson looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well. Sampson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Smith doesn't seem bothered though. Smith misses with a takedown and Sampson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sampson controls from within his opponent's guard. Smith is trying to control the position but Sampson postures up. Sampson trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith is trying to keep Sampson in close.
Sampson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Sampson prevents Smith from getting back to his feet. Sampson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Sampson passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Smith tries to roll over but Sampson keeps him under control. Smith looks like he's trying to stand up.

Steve Sampson dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Smith crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Sampson - the referee stops the clock and Smith gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Sampson. Smith manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Sampson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sampson controlling the position. Sampson scores with a couple of short elbows. Sampson taking a breather here. Smith gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Smith is looking to control Sampson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smith avoid being mounted? Still in half guard, Sampson seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith has hold of Sampson's hands but Sampson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Smith trying to hold on to Sampson's head to control him but Sampson postures up.
Sampson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Sampson controlling the position easily from mount. Smith regains half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sampson is figuring out what he wants to do next. Sampson moves into full mount! Smith won't be happy about that! Smith wants to hold on but Sampson pushes him away. Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sampson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Sampson lands a big shot there that rocks Smith but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sampson lands a nice shot to the head. Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't. Sampson scoring with strikes but Smith is staying in there. Sampson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Smith is desperately trying to improve his position but Sampson has a good base and remains in mount. Sampson controlling the pace for now. Smith tries to reverse the position but Sampson maintains control. Sampson is working for a guillotine from mount but Smith frees his head quite easily.
Sampson has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sampson prevents Smith from getting the reversal. Sampson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt. Sampson controls the position from side control. Smith gets back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steve Sampson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!
Smith with a lazy takedown attempt and Sampson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smith's guard now. Smith is working an open guard so Sampson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Smith throws a poor cross that misses
and Sampson counters by clinching up. Sampson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Smith slips a jab and a cross from Sampson.

Smith darts in trying to clinch and Sampson counters with a nice body shot. Sampson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith wants to get back to his feet. A lull in the action here. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Smith wants to control but Sampson postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith trying to remain calm as Sampson controls from the top position. Smith tries to improve position but can't. Smith is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sampson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Sampson is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Smith trying to control here.

Steve Sampson has got the better of the ground game so far. Sampson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Smith wants to control but Sampson is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Sampson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Dan Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Sampson working over Smith with some ground and pound. Smith looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
And that's the end of the fight! Steve Sampson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Sampson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
