Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Asi Taungava (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Noonan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Asi Taungava!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Noonan!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taungava with a lazy takedown attempt

and Noonan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Taungava!
Noonan has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Taungava's face.

Noonan stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Noonan dives in and scores a takedown into Taungava's guard.

Noonan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Taungava, up you get!

Noonan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Noonan tries to pass to full mount but Taungava defends it.
Noonan slows the pace down in half guard.

Noonan decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Noonan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Taungava swivels and escapes.
Noonan tries to clinch but Taungava moves away

and Taungava counters with a nice double leg into side control. Noonan won't be happy with that.
Noonan wants to control but Taungava postures up.
Noonan tries to improve position but can't.

Taungava is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Noonan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Taungava will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Taungava is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Noonan has escaped the position, nice work there.
Taungava in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Noonan manages to get back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Taungava is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Noonan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Taungava.

Noonan looks gassed!

Noonan is looking to control Taungava's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Noonan avoid being mounted?

Taungava is trying to work for a kimura but Noonan is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Noonan wants to improve his position but Taungava is controlling well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Taungava is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Noonan sees it coming and defends easily.

Noonan is defending against the submission attempts here by Taungava.

Taungava is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Noonan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Taungava.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Noonan has one foot on Taungava's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Matt Noonan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Taungava rushes Noonan and presses him up against the cage.
Noonan trying to land knees to the body.
Noonan utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Taungava jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Noonan walks away with a smile on his face. Taungava gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Taungava shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Noonan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Noonan lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Taungava.

Noonan pulls guard.
Matt Noonan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Taungava throwing strikes from guard but Noonan blocks nicely.
Taungava stands up out of Noonan's guard for a moment - Noonan manages to land a nice upkick.
Noonan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Taungava postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Noonan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Taungava defends it easily.

Taungava postures up in Noonan's guard and throws a big left but Noonan blocks it.
Noonan trying to keep a closed guard but Taungava is proving a slippery customer.

Taungava drops back looking for a leg! Noonan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Noonan manages to kick Taungava off! Taungava jumps back into Noonan's guard.

Taungava is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Noonan has Taungava pulled in close to control his posture.

Taungava drops back looking for a leg! Noonan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Noonan manages to kick Taungava off! Taungava jumps back into Noonan's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Taungava is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Noonan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Noonan has escaped and now he's on top!

Noonan throws a strike but Taungava rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Taungava won't allow Noonan to sweep him here.
Noonan wants to stand but Taungava is controlling the position.
Noonan is pulling down on Taungava's head. It's preventing any offense from Taungava, at least for the moment.

Taungava drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Noonan dives on top into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Noonan wants to control from the top but Taungava keeps moving.
Noonan controlling from the top position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matt Noonan wasn't active enough on the ground.

Noonan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Noonan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

and Noonan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Taungava won't be happy with that.

Noonan decides to stand back up.

Noonan forces Taungava back against the cage and clinches.
Taungava is trying to drag Noonan to the mat but Noonan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Taungava tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Noonan smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Asi Taungava. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Taungava has his takedown stuffed

and Noonan moves into the clinch.
Noonan gets underhooks to prevent Taungava's takedown attempt.
Noonan lands a right hand.

Noonan manages to pull guard.

Noonan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Taungava is aware though and is defending well.

Taungava drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Noonan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Taungava has Noonan in his guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Noonan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Taungava swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Noonan trying to control the position from guard on top but Taungava is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Noonan has gone for a leg lock! Taungava slips out almost immediately though and dives into Noonan's guard.

Noonan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Taungava has his takedown stuffed

and Noonan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Taungava!
Noonan seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Taungava is holding on tight.
Noonan looking to control and managing it successfully.

Taungava tries to buck Noonan off but Noonan takes his back!
Taungava is trying to remain composed but Noonan is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Taungava finds himself mounted whilst avoiding strikes.
Asi Taungava has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matt Noonan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Noonan content just to control the position here.

I've got Noonan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
