Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Arona (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Arona! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Rua! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Arona manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Arona had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rua defends it easily. Rua postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Arona is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rua, into his guard. Arona stopping the sweep attempt from Rua. Rua seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Rua has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Arona wants to pass the guard but Rua is keeping the position. Rua manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Arona manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Rua looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rua got a little sloppy there for a moment and Arona has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rua has managed to get both his arms back between Arona's legs - danger averted. Arona is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Rua passes into half guard. Rua is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rua tries to stand and escape but Arona is controlling the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arona looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rua wants to work for an arm triangle but Arona is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Arona is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rua pulls his head out easily. Arona looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Arona is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Rua is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Arona has managed to free his arm - good work. Arona looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Arona is breathing heavily. Rua is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Arona is just riding it out for now. Rua eventually gives up the hold. Rua is working for a kimura but Arona is defending it quite comfortably.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Arona moves into full guard.
Rua decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Arona shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Rua counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Rua is working for a kimura but Arona is defending it quite comfortably.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Arona tries to get back to half guard but can't. Rua goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Arona has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rua but great work by Arona. Rua is trying to control Arona's posture but Arona avoids it. Rua manages to get back to half guard. Rua has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Arona is working away from the top position though. Rua tries to get to full guard but Arona has control of the leg.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Rua trying to control from the bottom.
Rua keeping control of the position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Arona is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rua is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Arona's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Arona's back!
That's eight minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Arona is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Rua gets his way!

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Arona wants to stand and escape but instead Rua has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Rua pushing down on Arona's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Rua is working for a kimura but Arona is defending it quite comfortably.

Mauricio Rua dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Rua scores with a takedown into Arona's guard. Rua wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Arona's closed guard. He's half up but Arona has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Arona pivots and extends the arm, Rua falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Arona! Well done that man!
