Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Davi Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris McPheters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davi Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris McPheters!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves moves into range and connects with a jab.
McPheters throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Alves counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Alves cracks McPheters with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
McPheters looks to clinch
and Alves counters with a left to the body.
Chris McPheters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McPheters shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Alves has hold of McPheters's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and McPheters manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Alves lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
McPheters looks gassed!

Alves jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McPheters manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Alves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McPheters darts in trying to clinch
enabling Alves to counter with a crisp jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McPheters shoots in looking for a takedown. Alves tries to sprawl out of it but McPheters keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alves manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Alves changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Alves lands with a thumping leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Alves looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

McPheters walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Alves throws a shot from downtown. McPheters moves away and avoids it.

Alves tries to close the distance and clinch but McPheters swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McPheters is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Alves keeps the fight on the outside.
Alves scoring well with a low kick there.
McPheters closes the distance looking to clinch
and McPheters takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
McPheters has his takedown stuffed
and Alves connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Davi Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris McPheters.
Alves works over McPheters's head and body with a nice combination.
Alves looks to land a combination. McPheters sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Alves lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Alves feints and then cracks McPheters's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow McPheters down.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McPheters takes a kick to the side of the head.
McPheters doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Alves counters with a nice uppercut.
Alves throws a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McPheters on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Alves lands with a kick to the ribs.
McPheters has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Alves.
A punch lands to the side of McPheters 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Alves connects with a looping right hand.
Chris McPheters is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Alves counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Alves stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


McPheters is rocked!
McPheters is trying desperately to land a takedown but Alves is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for McPheters.

Alves closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Alves lands in his opponent's guard.
McPheters is still in real trouble! Can Alves finish him?

Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McPheters utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alves drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McPheters dives on top into guard.

McPheters is looking to work some ground and pound but Alves has wrist control.

McPheters has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
McPheters wants to get back to his feet but Alves is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McPheters manages to escape and get back to his feet.
McPheters gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Alves counters with a nice uppercut.

Alves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McPheters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Alves looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Davi Alves is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
