Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Renzo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from James.
James fails to land with a series of punches.
James misses with a low kick.
Brett James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James misses with a takedown attempt

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
James is trying to improve his position.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, James has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
James is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.
James is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie tries to move to mount but James blocks the move with his legs.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, James has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but James is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gracie has knee on belly and moves into mount.
James wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But James has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from James!
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
James trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
James in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Gracie looking for a guillotine here but James defends easily.

Gracie looking for a triangle here. James is fighting it but it looks tight! Gracie pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, James is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Renzo Gracie! Renzo Gracie retains his featherweight title!
