The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grendel tries to land a body kick
and Grendel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Grendel throws out a loose jab but John uses good head movement to avoid it.
Grendel throws a jab but it's blocked by John.
Grendel scores with a hook.

John connects with the punch.

and Grendel counters with a left to the body.
John misses with a left hand
and Grendel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

John throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Grendel counters with a left to the body.

Grendel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but John moves away.
Grendel connects with a single shot there.
John looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
John takes a jab right on the kisser.
Grendel lands a big head kick that sends John tumbling to the mat! Grendel takes a step backwards and waves John back to his feet - he wants the finish!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Grendel walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Oh John is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

John takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

John has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Grendel finds it's way round the side to connect with John's head.
Grendel fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches John on the side of the head.
A jab lands there for Grendel.
Grendel scores with a jab. John acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Grendel drops John with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but John looks back up at him and smiles so Grendel waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Big John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grendel lands a big right hand that sends John crashing to the mat! Grendel stays standing though and waves John back to his feet!

John on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

John displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Grendel throws out the jab.
Grendel lands a big uppercut and John crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but John looks OK. Grendel waves John back to his feet!

Grendel is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! John had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
John drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Grendel fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops John to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! John looks to clinch but Grendel throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! John taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
