Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fred Flintstone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pete Patterson! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flintstone tries to clinch up but Patterson circles away and keeps his distance. Flintstone tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Flintstone moves into the clinch successfully.
Flintstone jumps guard.
Flintstone tries to land a sweep but no joy. Flintstone is looking to stand up but Patterson isn't so interested in that idea. Patterson postures up in Flintstone's guard and throws a big left but Flintstone blocks it. Patterson tries to free his leg and advance position but Flintstone is retaining full guard. Patterson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Pete Patterson. Patterson swats away the attempt to clinch by Flintstone.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flintstone tries to clinch but Patterson is having none of it. Patterson tries to clinch up but Flintstone circles away and keeps his distance. Flintstone pushes Patterson up against the cage in a clinch. Flintstone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Flintstone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Flintstone is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Patterson wants to clinch. Patterson dives in and scores a takedown into Flintstone's guard. Patterson prevents Flintstone from getting back to his feet. Flintstone wants to sweep but no luck. Flintstone preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patterson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Flintstone is letting Patterson control him for a moment. Patterson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. It looks like Patterson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Patterson passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Flintstone! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Patterson controlling the pace for now. Patterson working Flintstone over with strikes here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Patterson is standing up, even though he is in mount. Flintstone gets caught flat footed, as Patterson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Flintstone is breathing heavily. Patterson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Flintstone avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Flintstone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Patterson on the ground. Patterson slips nicely into half guard. Patterson is trying to control. Flintstone wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Patterson throwing shots but Flintstone is blocking nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson passes to side control. Patterson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Flintstone will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Patterson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Patterson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Patterson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Patterson in side control, throwing shots but Flintstone defends. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Patterson dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Sloppy strikes from Patterson. Those never looked like landing. Flintstone fails with an attempt to clinch.
Patterson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch but Flintstone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. No luck with that takedown attempt from Patterson. Flintstone clinches up against the cage. Patterson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Flintstone walks away with a smile on his face. Patterson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Flintstone tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Flintstone tries to clinch but fails miserably and Patterson counters with a single leg into guard. Flintstone didn't expect that. Patterson looking to pass the guard. Patterson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Patterson with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson wants to control from the top but Flintstone keeps moving. Flintstone looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Flintstone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Patterson stays in close to Flintstone's body and controls the position. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Patterson stands and steps away. Flintstone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Nice sprawl there from Flintstone as Patterson shoots in. Fred Flintstone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pete Patterson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Flintstone closes the distance and pushes Patterson back into the cage. Patterson fails to pull guard.
Patterson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Flintstone is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Flintstone manages to break the clinch.
Flintstone tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Patterson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Flintstone tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Patterson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Patterson trying to control but Flintstone is working from the bottom. Patterson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Patterson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Flintstone is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson scoring with punches from side control. Patterson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flintstone keeps working. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Sloppy strikes there by Patterson. Patterson decides to stand back up. Patterson steps back and let's Flintstone get back to his feet. Flintstone forces Patterson back against the cage and clinches. Flintstone breaks the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Flintstone tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Fred Flintstone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Flintstone throws a sloppy head kick and Patterson moves out of range easily. Patterson is looking to clinch but Flintstone is avoiding it.
Patterson throws out a loose jab but Flintstone uses good head movement to avoid it. Patterson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A head kick misses from Patterson. Fred Flintstone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Patterson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Patterson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Flintstone was covering up waiting for the punch and Patterson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Patterson wants to control from the top but Flintstone keeps moving. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Patterson wants to pass the guard but Flintstone is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Patterson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Patterson. Flintstone misses with a few strikes there.

Patterson tries for a takedown but Flintstone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Patterson circles away from the clinch attempt so Patterson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Flintstone keeping moving, preventing Patterson from controlling successfully. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Patterson's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Patterson wants to get up but he can't break Flintstone's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Flintstone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson stopping the sweep attempt from Flintstone. Patterson looking to pass the guard. Patterson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Flintstone keeping full guard, as Patterson tries to pass.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Pete Patterson wasn't active enough on the ground. Flintstone gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Patterson wants to control from the top but Flintstone keeps moving. Patterson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The referee asks Patterson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Patterson prefers to stall for the moment though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Flintstone tries to escape but Patterson is in control. Patterson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Patterson cracks Flintstone with a big elbow. Patterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Flintstone knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Fred Flintstone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Pete Patterson has got the better of the ground game so far. A lull in the action here as Patterson stalls from top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Pete Patterson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Patterson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
