PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gabbie Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay comes to the cage accompanied by Why Can't We Be Friends. Peters is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Sevendust - Enemy. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gabbie Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Peters!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peters scores with a jab. Jay acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Peters darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Peters throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jay scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Peters manages to mount him!
Jay is desperately trying to improve his position but Peters has a good base and remains in mount.
Peters landing punches.
Jay holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Peters tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Jay tries to hold on but Peters pushes him away.
Jay can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jay tries to lock up and control but Peters gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Peters looking to ground and pound but Jay is blocking nicely.

Peters throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Jay is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Jay won't allow Peters to pass to mount.
Peters is looking to take a break and control but Jay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Peters content to control rather than advance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Peters is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jay is defending against the submission attempts here by Peters.

Peters thows a huge punch but Jay dodges it nicely.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well, if Peters is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Peters connects with a nice short shot to Jay's temple.

Peters wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving.
Peters has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Peters accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Peters might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Peters takes one on the chin but seems OK.
