Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Terere! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Soares! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Soares shoots and misses and Terere counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Soares's guard now. Soares wants to sweep here but Terere controlling him for the moment. Terere got a little sloppy there for a moment and Soares has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Terere has managed to get both his arms back between Soares's legs - danger averted. Terere has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Terere stands up over Soares, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Terere trying to control but Soares is working from the bottom. Soares had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Terere defends it easily. Terere throwing strikes but missing. Soares has momentary wrist control but Terere slips an elbow through the middle. Terere looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Soares escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Terere gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Soares wants to stand but Terere is controlling the position. Terere sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Soares's guard. Terere controlling the pace. Terere is pressing down on Soares's thigh, looking to free his foot. Soares is holding on for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Soares is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Terere pulls his head out easily. Soares looks gassed! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Terere passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Soares! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Soares manages to regain half guard. Good work. Terere passes to full mount! Soares tries to reverse the position but Terere maintains control. Terere controlling the pace for now. Terere is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Soares has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Terere content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Soares is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Terere is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Soares is forced to tap! Great finish!
