Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tommy Bowers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michail Nikolajevitch! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nikolajevitch gets caught flat footed, as Bowers shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Bowers drops back looking for a leg! Nikolajevitch is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nikolajevitch manages to kick Bowers off! Bowers jumps back into Nikolajevitch's guard. Bowers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bowers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Bowers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Nikolajevitch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Bowers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bowers is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nikolajevitch's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nikolajevitch's back! Nikolajevitch fending off the submission attempt from Bowers. Nikolajevitch is trying to get back to his feet but Bowers has full control of the position and if anything, Nikolajevitch has just worked his way into a worse spot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bowers not allowing Nikolajevitch to control his hands. Bowers working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Nikolajevitch is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Bowers has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Nikolajevitch taps out!
