PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dim Mak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Mathieu Xavier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xavier has chosen Entwine - Surrender as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mak gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Xavier tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mak paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Xavier is looking to clinch but Mak is avoiding it.
Xavier lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Xavier on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Mak throws a left and a right that both miss
and Xavier counters with a straight right hand.
Dim Mak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Xavier counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mak closes the distance and clinches.
Mak tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Xavier just stands there and leans against the cage.
Xavier works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Mak misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mak tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Xavier smiles and moves away.

and Xavier counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Mak swings widly with a right hand
and Xavier counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Xavier lands a jab to the nose.
Xavier has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Xavier wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mak throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Xavier counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Xavier connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Mak shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Xavier pinned against the cage. Xavier gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mak is trying to drag Xavier to the mat but Xavier just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Xavier swings wildly with an uppercut but Mak uses good head movement to avoid it.

Mak shoots in but Xavier avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Xavier counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mak throws a combination that misses
and Xavier counters with a stiff right hand.

Jean Mathieu Xavier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mak tried to score with a low kick but Xavier checks it.

enabling Xavier to counter with a crisp jab.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Xavier slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Mak throws a combination that misses
and Xavier counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mak looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Mak moves forwards but Xavier connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Xavier. Mak does a little dance to reset his feet.

Mak darts in and clinches Xavier up against the cage.

Mak is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Xavier's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Jean Mathieu Xavier comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Xavier has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
