Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny LaRusso! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Roa! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roa shoots in and gets a takedown into LaRusso's guard. LaRusso escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Roa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Roa stands up over LaRusso, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Roa wants to pass the guard but LaRusso is keeping the position. Roa with a flurry of punches that miss. Roa lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. LaRusso wants to stand and escape but Roa is having none of it. Roa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Roa lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. LaRusso is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Roa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. LaRusso wants to sweep here but Roa controlling him for the moment. LaRusso controlling Roa's posture. There's a bit of a scramble here and now LaRusso is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. LaRusso wants to control from the top but Roa keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. LaRusso wants to control from the top but Roa keeps moving. LaRusso trying to stand up but can't free himself from Roa's guard. Roa wants to get back to his feet but LaRusso is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. LaRusso with a lazy takedown attempt and Roa counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for LaRusso! LaRusso is in all sorts of trouble here.
LaRusso is working hard here to advance position. Roa with shots to the head and body - LaRusso looks very uncomfortable down there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roa looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. LaRusso really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
A nice elbow there by Roa. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. LaRusso wants to control but Roa is having none of it. Roa is in the full mount, landing strikes. Roa avoids the attempt from LaRusso to control. Roa fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
LaRusso wants to try and get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. LaRusso wants to control but Roa is having none of it. Roa drops a big elbow. That's hurt LaRusso! More shots from Roa and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
