And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vinny Russo!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Why dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Why connects with a body shot.
Why throws a jab when Russo was well out of range.
Why misses with a jab to the body
and Russo counters with an inside leg kick.
Russo shoots in for a takedown but Why shows good takedown defense.
Why misses with a combination
enabling Russo to counter with a crisp jab.
Why will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Why cracks Russo with a right hand to the side of the head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Why. Russo does a little dance to reset his feet.

Why clinches up with Russo and pushes him back against the cage.
Russo keeps control of Why as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Russo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Why counters with a three punch combo that has Russo backing up. Russo nods at Why to acknowledge the strikes.

Why misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Russo.
Russo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Stevie Why has been cut.
Why avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Russo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Why throws a poor cross that misses

and Russo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Why's guard.
Russo trying to control but Why is working from the bottom.

Why is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Why is working away from the top position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russo tries to hold on but Why pushes him away.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Russo tries to lock up and control but Why gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That was a close round but I would say that Stevie Why will probably get the nod.

enabling Russo to counter with a crisp jab.

Russo throws the left hand but Why avoids the punch easily.
Russo looks to land a combination but Why avoids it well.

and Russo counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Why thinking.
Why throws a series of punches but Russo moves out of range.
Why tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Russo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Stevie Why is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Why throws a combination that misses

and Russo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Why's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vinny Russo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Stevie Why seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Russo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Russo jabs Why right on the nose. Why blinks but takes it well.
Russo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Why manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Russo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

and Why takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Why moves in looking to clinch but Russo pushes him off.

Russo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Why is rocked!

Russo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Why to the mat! Why manages to get full guard.
Oh Why is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Why is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Russo trying to control but Why is working from the bottom.
Why seems to have got his legs back now.
Why tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Why is pulling down on Russo's head to control his posture.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Why wants to sweep but no luck.
Russo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Stevie Why just wasn't active enough.
Russo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Why sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Why takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Russo moves to clinch but Why breaks away

and Why counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Why is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Russo has his foot on Why's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Why works his way back into a safe position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Why swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Russo misses with a left hand
and Why counters with a stiff right hand.
Why misses with a lunging right hand
and Russo counters with a left to the body.
Russo shoots in and drives through. Why sprawls well.
Why swinging wildly here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Russo enables Why to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Russo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Russo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Why tries to free his leg and advance position but Russo is retaining full guard.
Stevie Why overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Russo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Why can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Why pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Russo is keeping the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Vinny Russo.
I think Russo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
