PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charles Babbage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Crippler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Babbage comes into the arena with Get baked blaring out of the sound system. Joe Crippler told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Babbage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Crippler!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babbage throws a lazy head kick
and Crippler counters with a nice body kick.
Crippler throws a leg kick
and Babbage cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Babbage misses with a combination
and Crippler counters with a left to the body.
Babbage chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Babbage throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Crippler stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Babbage throws a sloppy head kick
and Crippler counters with a big head kick but Babbage shrugs it off.

A shot to the body from Babbage misses
and Crippler counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Babbage throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Babbage just misses with a punch to the body.
Babbage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Babbage looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Babbage avoids the body shot from Crippler.

and Babbage counters with a shoot takedown. Crippler fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Babbage throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Crippler with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Babbage takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Babbage tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Charles Babbage is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Babbage dives in and grabs Crippler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Crippler pushes down on Babbage's head and hops out.
Crippler throws a front kick aimed at Babbage's knee but Babbage avoids it well.
Joe Crippler is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Crippler counters with a head kick. That will keep Babbage thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!


It looks like Charles Babbage has been cut.
Babbage moves out of range of the body kick from Crippler.
Babbage looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Crippler is fending him off so far but Babbage persists. Nope, Crippler circles away and we're back to standing.

and Crippler counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Babbage is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Crippler goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Babbage shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Crippler pinned against the cage. Crippler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Joe Crippler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Crippler counters with a body kick that stops Babbage in his tracks momentarily.

and Babbage counters with a nice low kick that buckles Crippler's knee momentarily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Crippler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Charles Babbage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Babbage throws a right hand that Crippler ducks under and follows up with a left that Crippler also avoids with ease.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Crippler throws a head kick but Babbage moves out of range.
Babbage throws a leg kick which misses Crippler's front leg but catches the back leg as Crippler tries to avoid it.
Babbage is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

That's time! Babbage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Crippler. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

and Babbage counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Babbage throws a strike but Crippler rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Crippler wants to get up but he can't break Babbage's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Babbage is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Babbage might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
