Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Koji Masunari! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Adrian James! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masunari chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Masunari stuffs the takedown. James tries to clinch up but Masunari circles away and keeps his distance. James throws a leg kick and Masunari counters with a thumping low kick. James misses with a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. James closes this distance looking for a takedown but Masunari circles away. James wants to clinch. James moves into range and clinches up with Masunari. James is trying to push Masunari away but Masunari has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. James misses with the head strike.
James tries to break free but Masunari pushes him back against the cage. James is trying to break the clinch but Masunari has him pressed against the cage. Masunari breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. James throws a sloppy head kick and Masunari counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. James swings and misses with a shot to the body and Masunari counters with a head kick. James misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Masunari counters with a body kick. James looks gassed! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! James throws a sloppy head kick and Masunari counters with a leg kick. Masunari closes the distance and clinches. Masunari breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. James fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Koji Masunari has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adrian James.
That's one minute gone in the round. James closes the distance looking to clinch and Masunari counters with a flying knee. Nice.
James is rocked! Masunari lands a left and a right that send James crashing to the mat, dazed. Masunari thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! James is still on wobbly legs! Can Masunari finish him? A decent looking body kick lands there for Masunari. Masunari throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. James seems to have recovered his senses. Masunari lands a big head kick that sends James tumbling to the mat! Masunari takes a step backwards and waves James back to his feet - he wants the finish! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Masunari throws an absolute beast of a head kick! James is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Koji Masunari!
