The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Nei misses with a double jab
and Emelianenko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in De Nei's guard. De Nei keeping full guard, as Emelianenko tries to pass. Emelianenko pushing down on De Nei's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. De Nei connecting with a few gentle strikes. De Nei is defending against the submission attempts here by Emelianenko.
Emelianenko passes the guard and advances to mount! Emelianenko is working for a guillotine from mount but De Nei frees his head quite easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Nei has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

De Nei looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Emelianenko is looking for a choke. De Nei gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. De Nei manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. De Nei must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Emelianenko looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
