Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dmitriy Bashkin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Trezeguet! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bashkin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Trezeguet. Bashkin fails to land with a series of punches.
Dmitriy Bashkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Trezeguet takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Bashkin closes the distance and clinches. Bashkin tries to break the clinch but Trezeguet is controlling the position. Bashkin can't break the clinch.
Trezeguet is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Bashkin wants to get back to striking at distance but Trezeguet won't allow it.
Bashkin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Bashkin throws a left and a right that both miss
so Trezeguet counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Trezeguet must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bashkin wants to stand up but Trezeguet is controlling him. Trezeguet wants to pass the guard but Bashkin is keeping the position. Bashkin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Trezeguet is controlling him. Trezeguet controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bashkin wants to stand and escape but Trezeguet is having none of it. Bashkin is breathing heavily. Trezeguet lands a couple of digs. Trezeguet stays in close to Bashkin's body and controls the position.
David Trezeguet has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Bashkin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bashkin throws a series of punches but Trezeguet avoids them all with ease. Bashkin dodges the punch combination from Trezeguet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trezeguet closes the distance and clinches. Trezeguet tries to score a body lock takedown but Bashkin shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Bashkin wants to get back to striking at distance but Trezeguet won't allow it.
Trezeguet lands a shoulder strike. Trezeguet tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bashkin avoids it. Trezeguet's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Trezeguet connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
It looks like Dmitriy Bashkin has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bashkin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Trezeguet closes the distance and pushes Bashkin back into the cage. Trezeguet pulls Bashkin into guard.
Bashkin preventing the sweep. Bashkin trying to stand up but can't free himself from Trezeguet's guard. Bashkin wants to stand and escape but instead Trezeguet has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Bashkin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trezeguet controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Trezeguet passes Bashkin's left leg - he's now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trezeguet tries to pass to full mount but Bashkin defends it. Trezeguet is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bashkin is trying to stand.
Trezeguet slows the pace down in half guard. Trezeguet works his way into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trezeguet takes a little break here. Bashkin wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Bashkin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Trezeguet taking a breather here. Bashkin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Trezeguet controls the position from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David Trezeguet dominated that round. The cut man is working on Dmitriy Bashkin's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Bashkin moves into the clinch successfully.
Trezeguet fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bashkin tries to stall but Trezeguet uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Trezeguet prevents Bashkin from breaking the clinch. Bashkin is trying to break free. Bashkin letting Trezeguet take a breather here. Still in the clinch, Trezeguet scores with a nice short uppercut. Trezeguet lands with a short shot to the head. Bashkin is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Trezeguet looking for a takedown. Trezeguet manages to pull guard.
Bashkin wants to stand but Trezeguet has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Trezeguet is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bashkin defends well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trezeguet controls Bashkin momentarily but Bashkin frees himself. Trezeguet manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bashkin manages to get himself to full guard.
Trezeguet is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Let's hope that Trezeguet has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bashkin is looking to stand up but Trezeguet isn't so interested in that idea. David Trezeguet has got the better of the ground game so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Trezeguet controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Trezeguet prevents Bashkin from getting back to his feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up. David Trezeguet was stalling too much, according to the referee. Bashkin clinches up against the cage. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Trezeguet creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Trezeguet's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Bashkin misses with a two punch combination.
Dmitriy Bashkin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bashkin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bashkin walks into a stiff left hand from Trezeguet. Trezeguet catches Bashkin with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Bashkin forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!
