The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potvin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Potvin is trying to control. Thompson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Thompson is controlling Potvin's trapped leg to prevent Potvin from advancing to side control.
Thompson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Thompson tries to get out of the position.
Potvin seems to be looking for submissions.
Potvin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Thompson sees it coming and defends easily.
Thompson wants to improve his position but Potvin is controlling well.

Potvin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Potvin prevents Thompson from standing back up.
Thompson is not content to let Potvin control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Potvin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Thompson tries to reverse the position but Potvin maintains control.

Potvin looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Potvin has control of Thompson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Thompson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Thompson is in a horrible position here. Potvin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Potvin swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
