Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Latka Gravas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Quall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quall is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Beach Blast. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Latka Gravas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Quall!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gravas showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Quall.
Gravas shoots for a takedown but Quall saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gravas closes the distance and clinches up with Quall, looking for a takedown. Gravas pushes Quall against the cage but Quall circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A telegraphed right hand from Quall misses the target.
Gravas takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Quall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Quall counters with a good low kick that Gravas was not able to check.
Latka Gravas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gravas goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Quall turns into him and now he's in Gravas's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gravas holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gravas has a closed guard, preventing Quall from standing up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gravas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quall as he jumps to the side.

Quall throws out a leg kick but Gravas moves out of range and Quall only half commits.

and Gravas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Quall is pressing down on Gravas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Gravas tries to free his leg and advance position but Quall is retaining full guard.
Quall wants to sweep here but Gravas controlling him for the moment.

Gravas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Quall regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gravas.

Gravas has gone for a leg lock! Quall slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gravas's guard.

Quall won't allow Gravas to sweep him here.
Gravas seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Gravas has a closed guard, preventing Quall from standing up.

Gravas wants to sweep here but Quall controlling him for the moment.
Quall must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Quall takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gravas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gravas shoots in and drives through. Quall sprawls well.
Gravas misses with a right hand
letting Quall counter with a right hand.
Gravas is looking to wear down Quall with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Gravas throws a body punch but Quall moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but James Quall will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Gravas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Gravas shoots in and bounces Quall off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Quall can't keep his opponent in guard - Gravas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gravas moves into full mount! Quall won't be happy about that!

Gravas landing strikes from the mount and Quall is in trouble!

Gravas looking to ground and pound but Quall is blocking nicely.
Gravas postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Quall looks a forlorn figure.
Quall is trying desperately to improve position.
Gravas lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Gravas throws some wild stikes that Quall manages to avoid easily.
A nice elbow there by Gravas.

Gravas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Quall to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Quall shrugs it off.

James Quall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Quall is looking to improve his position but Gravas isn't that keen on the idea.
Poor strikes thrown by Gravas there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Gravas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Quall has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Quall!
Gravas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Quall tries to stand but Gravas is controlling from the bottom.
Latka Gravas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gravas holds on and takes a little breather.

I think Quall has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
