Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Louis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Koji Suzuki! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Louis throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Suzuki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Suzuki throws out a powerful jab. Suzuki lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Louis throws a combination that misses and Suzuki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Suzuki closes the distance looking to clinch and Louis counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Suzuki!
Suzuki is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Louis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Louis tries to stand and escape but Suzuki is controlling the position. Louis perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Louis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Louis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Suzuki wants to control but Louis is keeping busy and won't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suzuki can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suzuki is staying active underneath Louis, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Suzuki should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Joe Louis just wasn't active enough. Suzuki walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Louis checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Louis tries to clinch but Suzuki moves away and Suzuki moves into the clinch. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Suzuki. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Louis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Suzuki is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Louis just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! And now a right hook, right on the button! Suzuki has gone limp, and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Joe Louis!
