Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Van Gundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stan Van Gundy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stan Van Gundy! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Duarte closes the distance looking to clinch and Van Gundy counters with a nice leg kick. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Van Gundy stuffs the takedown. Marcos Duarte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A nice inside leg kick there by Van Gundy. That's going to slow Duarte down. A head kick misses from Duarte. Van Gundy throws a leg kick and Duarte counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Duarte trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Van Gundy keeping moving, preventing Duarte from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duarte drops back, looking for a kneebar! Van Gundy looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Van Gundy looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Van Gundy! Van Gundy wants to stand but Duarte is controlling his arm. Van Gundy sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Duarte is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Van Gundy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duarte keeps working. Duarte is trying to improve his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Duarte wants to control but Van Gundy postures up. Duarte regains half guard. Duarte controlling the position for now. Van Gundy is keen to just control but Duarte is a slippery customer. Van Gundy trying to mount his opponent but Duarte defends it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Stan Van Gundy was stalling too much, according to the referee. A low kick from Van Gundy is predictable there and Duarte counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Van Gundy thinking. Duarte is looking to clinch but Van Gundy is avoiding it.
Duarte shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Van Gundy napping and manages to drive through into side control! Duarte wants to control but Van Gundy is keeping him busy. Duarte tries to score with some ground and pound. Van Gundy controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Duarte trying to control the action but Van Gundy is working from the bottom.

Van Gundy thows a leg kick but Duarte checks it and Duarte counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Van Gundy gets off balance looking for a body kick and Duarte counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Duarte. Duarte loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Van Gundy can do anything to dispel that myth. Van Gundy looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Duarte chips away with some ground and pound. Duarte wants to control from the top but Van Gundy keeps moving. Van Gundy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duarte. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Duarte lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duarte missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Duarte wants to control from the top but Van Gundy keeps moving. Duarte's corner is telling him to maintain position. Duarte drops back looking for a leg! Van Gundy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Van Gundy manages to kick Duarte off! Duarte jumps back into Van Gundy's guard. Duarte throws a big right hand that misses. Duarte has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Duarte with a flurry of punches that miss. Duarte missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Duarte throws and elbow that misses. Van Gundy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Duarte's guard. Nice move by Van Gundy! Duarte keeping moving, preventing Van Gundy from controlling successfully. Van Gundy looking to sit in guard and control but Duarte gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Van Gundy wants to sweep but no luck. Duarte tries to free his leg and advance position but Van Gundy is retaining full guard. Van Gundy has momentary wrist control but Duarte slips an elbow through the middle. Van Gundy tries to land a sweep but no joy. Duarte with a nice head shot there. Van Gundy lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Duarte! Duarte is squirming around, avoiding Van Gundy's attempts to control the action. Van Gundy is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Duarte can't escape the position.

Marcos Duarte dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. Duarte throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Duarte looks up at the clock and then as Van Gundy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Duarte smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Van Gundy defending against the ground and pound. The referee asks Duarte politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Duarte prefers to stall for the moment though. You can see the frustration on Van Gundy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Gundy seems a little lost for a moment, as Duarte dominates the positioning. Duarte working the head and body with strikes. Van Gundy is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Duarte in side control lands a decent elbow. Stan Van Gundy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Van Gundy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Duarte moves into full mount! Duarte dominating with strikes here. Marcos Duarte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duarte looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Duarte lands a big shot there that rocks Van Gundy but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Duarte scoring with strikes but Van Gundy is staying in there. Duarte fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Duarte with shots to the head and body - Van Gundy looks very uncomfortable down there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Duarte lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Duarte landing shots from mount. Duarte is working for a guillotine from mount but Van Gundy frees his head quite easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Van Gundy is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Duarte locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Van Gundy is forced to tap!
