Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Connely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jordan Smith will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Connely!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Smith!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connely throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.
Connely misses with a body shot.
A punch combination from Connely misses.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Connely.
Connely throws a left and a right that both miss

and Smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Connely's guard now.

Connely has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smith won't allow Connely to sweep him here.

Connely is working hard here to advance position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Connely keeping full guard, as Smith tries to pass.
Connely manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.
Connely trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Connely controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Connely.
Connely fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Smith throws a body punch but Connely moves out of range.
Connely blocks the body kick.
Smith moves out of range as Connely strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nice jab there from Connely.
Smith throws a leg kick but Connely sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Connely lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Connely moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Smith takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


Smith is rocked!
A lazy left from Connely finds it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Smith feints and as Connely raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Connely has his hands on Smith's head, controlling the position.
Connely might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Connely not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chris Connely.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

A big right from Connely misses.
Smith misses with a kick to the body.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.
Connely wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Connely lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Connely thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Connely trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Connely postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Smith looks a forlorn figure.
Smith in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Connely scoring with strikes but Smith is staying in there.
Connely lands a nice shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Connely misses with a series of wild punches.
Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Connely finish him?

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Connely to the ground. Smith is now in Connely's guard.
Connely manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.
Smith seems to have recovered his senses.
Connely wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Connely throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Connely is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Connely swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Connely misses with a takedown
and Smith counters with a thumping low kick.
Smith lands an overhand right.
Some wild striking there from Connely.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Chris Connely overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith is staying active underneath Connely, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Connely pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Jordan Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Connely swings widly with a right hand
and Smith makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Connely really felt that one!
Connely throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smith sees it coming and avoids it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith is looking to land body kicks.

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Connely looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Connely controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Connely tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position.
Connely sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Connely is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Connely is trying to control but can't.
Ground and pound from Smith.

Connely tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.

Smith with the ground and pound but Connely uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Smith throws and elbow that misses. Connely uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Smith's guard. Nice move by Connely!
Connely with a flurry of punches that miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Chris Connely will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Connely.
Smith throws a nice inside leg kick.
Connely swings for the body but Smith moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Connely rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith lands with a kick to the ribs.

Connely closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Smith wants to sweep here but Connely controlling him for the moment.

Connely looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Smith puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Connely tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Smith has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
