PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iggy Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guerrero has chosen La Bamba as his entrance music. The key to victory for Donald Patterson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donald Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Iggy Guerrero!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson tries to clinch up
and Guerrero counters with a good low kick that Patterson was not able to check.
Patterson darts in trying to clinch

and Guerrero moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guerrero avoiding damage as Patterson throws knees to the body.

Guerrero breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice defenses there by Patterson.
Patterson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Guerrero moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guerrero checks a leg kick.
Patterson tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Guerrero counters by moving into the clinch.
Patterson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Guerrero avoids the elbow strike from Patterson, against the cage.
Guerrero goes for a takedown in the clinch but Patterson prevents it.
Guerrero lands a right hand.
Patterson keeps control of Guerrero as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Patterson unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Guerrero takes an elbow to the forehead.

Guerrero pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Guerrero takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Patterson tries a head kick but it misses.
Patterson misses with a body shot.
Patterson tries to clinch but Guerrero moves away
and Guerrero counters with a two punch combo.
Patterson closes the distance looking to clinch

so Guerrero counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guerrero trying to control the position from guard on top but Patterson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Guerrero tries to free his leg and advance position but Patterson is retaining full guard.
Patterson wants to stand up but Guerrero is controlling him.
Guerrero trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Patterson wants to stand and escape but Guerrero is having none of it.

Guerrero drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Patterson dives on top into guard.
Patterson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Patterson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Guerrero, up you get!
Sloppy strikes from Patterson. Those never looked like landing.

Guerrero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Guerrero lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Guerrero throws a nice inside leg kick.
Patterson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Patterson on the wrong end of a nice jab.
A head kick misses from Patterson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Iggy Guerrero will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Patterson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Guerrero makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Patterson takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Guerrero counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Guerrero.

Guerrero drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Guerrero jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Guerrero thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Guerrero slips nicely into half guard.

Guerrero is pressing down on Patterson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Patterson is holding on for now.

Patterson has one foot on Guerrero's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Patterson tries a head kick but it misses.
A low kick from Guerrero is predictable there
and Patterson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Guerrero lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Guerrero.

and Guerrero counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Patterson!

Guerrero controlling from mount.
Guerrero tries to control but Patterson wriggling away.
Patterson is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Guerrero controlling the position easily from mount.
Patterson is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Patterson has given up his back. Will we see Guerrero going for some submissions?
Guerrero trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Patterson defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Guerrero's arms.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guerrero is looking for a rear naked choke here but Patterson reverses the position brilliantly into Guerrero's guard!

Guerrero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Patterson wants to stand and escape but instead Guerrero has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Guerrero drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Patterson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Guerrero has Patterson in his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Iggy Guerrero showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Guerrero counters with a slapping leg kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patterson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Guerrero.


It looks like Iggy Guerrero has been cut.
Patterson wants to clinch
and Guerrero connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Donald Patterson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guerrero misses the shot to the body.
Patterson misses with a lunging right hand
and Guerrero counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Guerrero avoids the head kick by Patterson.

Patterson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Guerrero scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Patterson doesn't seem bothered though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Guerrero sizes up Patterson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

and Guerrero counters with a nice uppercut.

and Guerrero counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Guerrero lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Patterson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Guerrero counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Guerrero throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Patterson.
Good leg kick by Guerrero there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Guerrero counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Guerrero.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Donald Patterson.
I think Guerrero has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
